HASTI Unveils Groundbreaking Development Plan in Yemen, Empowering Local Researchers for National Resurgence

Something quite significant unfolded on the administrative front in Yemen today, about the nation’s journey towards revival and self-sufficiency.

All were orchestrated by the group known as the “Houthis.” To comprehend this development, it is essential to clarify that the “Houthis” effectively govern Yemen from the capital Sana’a. It functions as a bona fide institution, with ministries and government entities exercising direct control over 80% of the Yemeni population. The ‘Supreme Authority for Science, Technology and Innovation’ (HASTI), a governmental body supervised directly by the Presidency, currently led by Mahdi Al-Mashat – who concurrently serves as the incumbent chairman of the “Houthi” Politburo. HASTI, represented by their acronym, unveiled a digital book earlier today, spanning an extensive 535 pages, titled “Research Map of the Republic of Yemen.”

The significance lies in the process of accessing the book. Yemeni researchers are required to register on a designated HASTI platform, where they provide details about their academic qualifications, area of expertise, and contact information. Upon completion, they receive a download link to access the book. So, what does the book entail?

In essence, it serves as a comprehensive compilation of focal points for researchers aiming to contribute to Yemen’s resurgence. The topics covered span a broad spectrum, including agricultural research, health and pharmaceutical science, and virtually everything in between. The book outlines specific sectors, including:

  1. Agriculture & Fisheries Sector
  2. Water & Environmental Sector
  3. Energy & Mining Sector
  4. Industrial Production Sector
  5. Information Technology & Communications Sector
  6. Health & Pharmaceutical Sciences Sector (the lengthiest chapter)
  7. Construction & Urban Planning Sector
  8. Basic Sciences Sector (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences)
  9. Education Sciences Sector (the second lengthiest chapter)

HASTI’s initiative involves crafting a long-term development plan for the entire country, leveraging the intellectual capital of Yemen’s brightest minds – excluding external involvement. The plan meticulously delineates specific research focus areas to drive the nation’s progress.
