Israeli forces kill teen in the West Bank: Palestinian officials

Israeli forces have fatally shot a Palestinian teenager during clashes in the occupied West Bank, as reported by Palestinian officials. The incident occurred near the town of Bethlehem, where the 16-year-old, identified as Mustafa Sabah, was allegedly shot in the chest.

According to Palestinian media, the confrontation ensued when Israeli forces encountered a group of young Palestinians hurling rocks at them. Witnesses stated that Israeli troops responded with tear gas and gunfire.

The Israeli military stated that soldiers deployed riot dispersal methods and fired warning shots into the air as dozens of Palestinians continued to throw rocks, posing a perceived threat to their lives. The army confirmed that live ammunition was used, resulting in casualties.

In a separate incident in the city of Jenin, Israeli forces conducted a raid leading to clashes with Palestinian fighters. The military reported the arrest of a suspected fighter and the seizure of weapons, amidst clashes involving the hurling of explosive devices. Several Palestinians were injured in the ensuing violence.

Violence in the occupied West Bank has escalated this year, marked by frequent military raids, attacks by Israeli settlers, and Palestinian resistance. The tensions have resulted in numerous casualties on both sides, with more than 90 Palestinians and at least 19 Israelis and foreigners killed since January.

The West Bank, along with East Jerusalem, was captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war, and since then, the Israeli government has established settlements in the region, which are considered illegal under international law.
